Well done to all 5 of the Wear Valley Amateur Swimming Club swimmers who qualified for the the Northumberland and Durham Counties Championships! Some amazing results were achieved by the squad who competed at the 50m (long course) pool at Sunderland Aquatic Centre over 2 weekends 11th-13th and 26-27th February 2022. A total of 32 clubs brought swimmers to compete at this high level gala.
Ava Race qualified for 3 events; the 50, 100, and 200 metre breaststroke. She managed to qualify for finals in each of these events for her age group and swam extremely well in each of them, finishing 5th in the Northumberland and Durham area for her age in the 200m breaststroke. Thomas Power continued this winning streak gaining personal best times (pbs) in all of his 3 breaststroke events. He took 1 second off his 100m breaststroke with a new pb of 1.14.39. Emily Whitton swam in 7 events and achieved a 3 second pb in her 200m Individual Medley (2.46.26) and a new pb in her 50m freestyle. Jessica Maughan came 5th in her age for the 200m breaststroke and equalled her previously held times in the 50m freestyle and 50m breaststroke. Annabel Cooper swam in 7 events, took 2 seconds off her 200m Individual Medley (2.36.24) and managed to equal her previously held 100m free, 200m free and 200m butterfly times (2.35.88),
