Fantastic Festival of Swimming

Five intrepid senior swimmers from Wear Valley Amateur Swimming Club set off for their first gala in 18 months and returned with some fantastic results. The event was held at the 50m pool in Sunderland Aquatic Centre and included swimmers from across the Northumberland and Durham Counties. The gala was held under strict Covid guidelines. The team coached by Head Coach Angela Callan swam against 15 to 18 and over aged swimmers on the afternoon of 24th July and the morning of 25th July.

Emily Whitton swam 3 new personal best swims (pbs) in the 100m butterfly (fly) with a new time of 1.11.75, 100m freestyle (free) pb 1.05.07 and took 3 seconds off her 100m backstroke (back), with a new time of 1.13.69. Emily Power swam a long course (50m) pb in her 200m breaststroke. Thomas Power achieved a pb in his 100m breaststroke with a new time of 1.15.76 and swam 2.51.68 in the 200m breaststroke.

Jessica Maughan achieved a fantastic pb in her 200m Individual Medley with a new time of 2.42.22 and competed in the 100m and 200m breaststroke. Annabel Cooper swam in 5 events and swam 4 new pbs in the 100m fly (with a new time of 1.08.10), 200fly, 400m free (new time 4.45.72) and 100m back. Annabel also competed in the 100m free. Well done to the WVASC team, they are so pleased to be back competing! A big thank you to the event organisers and to the WVASC coaching staff.
