Tremendous Gala at Tynemouth

Ten Wear Valley Amateur Swimming Club swimmers made a tremendous start to the year achieving fantastic results at the “Last Chance Northumberland and Durham County Qualifier” hosted by Newcastle Swim Team in Tynemouth. The gala was held over the weekend of the 15th and 16th of January at the Tynemouth Pool.

A total of 42 personal best (pb) times were gained by the athletes together with 14 medals. George Anderson enjoyed a fantastic set of 9 swims achieving pbs in every event. George took 18 seconds off his 100m butterfly (fly) time with a new pb of 1.15.80 and also took an amazing 21 seconds off his 200m Individual Medley (IM) with a new time of 2.42.37. Thomas Power also smashed his 5 events, winning pbs in all of them, together with 3 bronze medals in the 50m fly, 100m backstroke (back) and 200m back. Thomas also took 3 seconds off his 200m freestyle (free)  with  a new time of 2.15.03 and 5 seconds off his 200m back with a new pb of 2.34.28.

Lola Copeland also enjoyed a 100 per cent pb record with pbs gained in both the 200 free (2.45.78) and 100m breaststroke. Roberta Antonescu swam some amazing times gaining 6 new pbs. Roberta took 6 seconds off her 400m free with a new time of 5.25.85. Anne Marie Kelley took an incredible 15 seconds off her 200m free with a new time of 2.43.93 and also swam 5 pbs. Isobel Micklethwait and Daisy Mulholland gained 3 pbs each. Isobel took 1 second off her 50m breaststroke (50.92) and Daisy took 3 seconds off her 100m back (1.26.06).

Ava Race won a gold in the 200m breaststroke, silver medals in the 100m fly and 200m free, together with bronzes in the 50m and 100m breaststroke, together with 3 pbs. Romilly Staines swam an amazing 6 pb times, taking 27 seconds off her 200m free with a new time of 2.39.68. Annabel Cooper medalled in each of her 6 events, winning 3 golds and 3 silvers. Lots of terrific times at Tynemouth and a tremendous start to the New Year. Many thanks to WVASC coaching staff.
