Northumberland & Durham Championships 2024, 2nd – 4th Feb 2024

The first weekend in February provided some fantastic swimming by Team Wear Valley with swimmers achieving numerous exceptional performances. George Anderson and Joshua Whitton both stepped up in their first County championships with 3 lifetime best performances in their 3 individual events.

Freya Colling gained well deserved lifetime best performances in both the 50m breaststroke and 50m butterfly. Charlotte Wilson made finals in the 200m backstroke and 100m butterfly, also making the reserve list for the 200m IM and 200m breaststroke events in which she smashed her personal best times.

Thomas Power, our most senior swimmer also had a career best County championships, besting his previous lifetime best in the 50m butterfly and achieving a first senior final berth in his signature 50m breaststroke which he also PBd on the day.

To the medallists:
After making numerous finals, Callum Wilson finally picked up his first N&D medal taking a fantastic bronze medal in the 100m freestyle with a battling performance.

After just missing out on medals in the 800m freestyle, 100m freestyle, and 50m + 200m breaststroke and also making a total of 5 finals, Caitlyn McClean claimed a brace of stupendous Silver medals in the 50m and 100m butterfly with career best performances in both.

Completing a ground breaking 1-2 for Wear Valley ASC, Rosie Grayson claimed a magnificent Gold medal in the 50m butterfly, executing a perfect race plan (and breathing pattern) to pip her teammate to the title. Rosie had also picked up a stunning bronze medal in the 100m butterfly, knocking 4 seconds off her lifetime best in the process. There were also finals for Rosie in the 200m backstroke and 200m IM.
