The weekend of the 2nd and 3rd of July witnessed a fantastic festival of swimming at the Aquatics Centre in Sunderland for Wear Valley swimmers.
For what was the very first long course (50m pool) gala for the majority of swimmers, Wear Valley athletes acquitted themselves with great skill and determination, producing over 40 personal best performances and demonstrating great technique along the way.
All athletes swam fantastically, including 14 year old Lily Davidson's top 10 100m freestyle performance of 1:07.45 and a thrilling 1-2 gold and silver medal winning performance from 9 year olds Charlotte Wilson and Rosie Grayson in the girls 100m backstroke. Throughout the weekend the tremendous twosome collected over 10 medals between them!
Sunday also proved equally fruitful with 10 year old Callum Wilson picking up a bronze medal in the 100m freestyle and 11 year old Daisy Mulholland collecting two medals in the 50m and 200m backstroke events.
In all it was a fantastic weekend and everyone who swam contributed to what was a great atmosphere. A massive congratulations to all those who competed:
