Wear Valley Amateur Swimming Club enjoyed another spooktacular gala over the weekend of 30th/31st October, hosted by City of Sunderland Amateur Swimming Club in the 25 metre pool at the Aquatic Centre.
Ava Race smashed all of her 8 events, achieving personal bests (pbs) in each race and 3 bronze medals for her age category in the 50m butterfly (fly), 100m and 200m breaststroke. Ava took 14 seconds off her 100m breaststroke time (1.34.91). Another set of incredible performances from Josh Whitton resulted in pbs in each of his events, together with a silver medal in the 200m freestyle (free) (2.46.91) and a bronze medal in the 50m backstroke (back) (41.08). George Anderson continued his superb form with pbs achieved in each of his 8 events. George swam 29.50 in the 50m free and took 19 seconds off his 200m free (2.34.65). Beatrice Forsyth shattered her previously held pbs in the 50m breaststroke, 100m Individual Medley (IM) and 100m free, taking 11 seconds off (1.25.62) this latter event.
Isobel Micklethwait also achieved pbs in the 50m fly, 100m free and 100m backstroke (back), gaining a 17 second pb (1.29.59) in the 100m back. Daisy Mulholland smashed her previously held 200m IM by 24 seconds (3.11.61) and swam a pb in the 50m back. Another junior squad swimmer, Sarenya Nelson, secured pbs in both of her events 50m breaststroke and 100m IM, taking 29 seconds (1.51.71) off her previously held time. Romilly Staines continued her winning form gaining a bronze medal in the 100m fly (1.31.03) and 6 pbs. Romilly also smashed her 100m IM time by 28 seconds (1.26.21).
Emily Whitton also enjoyed an amazing set of results with 5 gold medals in the 100m fly, 50m free, 200m IM, 200m fly, and 100m IM and 2 bronze medals in the 50m fly and 100m back. Emily also swam 5 pbs. Annabel Cooper achieved a silver medal in the 200m IM and bronze medals in the 50m fly, 100m free and 100m IM, together with 5 pbs. Roberta Antonescu won a bronze medal in the 200m back and also achieved 5 pbs with a fantastic 35 second pb in the 400m free (5.31.98). Thomas Power swam a pb in the 50m breaststroke (32.25) and also secured a silver medal for this event. He also achieved a bronze medal in the 200m breaststroke together with 2 other pbs in the 100m back and 100m IM. Ryan Baker achieved a 50m fly time of 31.51 which was very close to his pre-Covid time and also had some other great swims.
A fantastic set of results achieved by the WVASC Junior and Senior squad athletes. Thank you to the WVASC coaching team, officials and volunteers from Sunderland who enabled this gala and the swimmers to flourish so spooktacularly!!
