Wear Valley goes Christmas Crackers

Wear Valley Amateur Swimming Club swimmers enjoyed early festive cheer with a haul of 37 medals and 33 personal best times. The team of 12 athletes from the WVASC Junior and Senior squads competed at  the Louisa Centre, Stanley, over the weekend of 4th/5th December 2021. The gala was well attended by County Durham teams and there was an added incentive of a Christmas chocolate box for the fastest competitor in each heat!

Both Lola Copeland and Isobel Micklethwait gained personal best (pb) times in each of their 3 events. Lola took 10 seconds off her 200m freestyle (free) and Isobel won a bronze, together with a 42 second pb in her 200m free. Joshua Whitton achieved 5 pbs, 2 gold and 2 bronze medals. He took 42 seconds off his previously held 200m backstroke time and a gold for this event. Roberta Antonescu swam 5 pbs, won 2 bronze medals, one of which was gained in the 100m breaststroke together with a 4 second pb. Beatrice Forsyth achieved a 6 second pb and a bronze medal in the 100m breaststroke event together with another bronze in the 200m breaststroke. This was a medal in an event which she has never swam competitively before!

Daisy Mulholland achieved a bronze medal and 7 second pb in the 100m backstroke. She also won a silver medal in the 50m backstroke. Romilly Staines smashed her 200m backstroke time by 28 seconds and gained 2 other pbs, 3 gold, 2 silver and a bronze medal. Ava Race won 5 gold, 2 silver and a bronze medal.  She also swam 4 pbs and Ava took 22 seconds off her previously held 100m butterfly time. Emily Whitton won 4 bronze medals and took 3 seconds off her 200m backstroke time. Thomas Power gained a silver and a bronze medal together with a pbs in the 50m free and 50m back. Annabel Cooper won 2 gold, 2 silver and a bronze medal, she was also happy with her new 200m freestyle time. George Anderson enjoyed winning a lot of heats and lots of chocolate. He was also on pb in his 100m backstroke.
