Wonderful Wear Valley Swims 2022

A total of 17 swimmers from the junior and senior squads of Wear Valley Amateur Swimming Club competed against other clubs at Tynemouth Swimming Pool over the weekend of 25th to 27th March 2022. For some of the swimmers it was their first inter-club gala. The athletes achieved a total of 53 personal best times (pbs), 8 gold, 9 silver and 14 bronze medals.

Isobel Micklethwait swam a pb in each of her 4 events and won a silver medal in the 200m breaststroke and a bronze medal in the 100m freestyle (free). Daisy Mulholland also achieved a 100% pb record, swimming an incredible 8 out of 8 possible pbs and she also won a silver medal in the 200m backstroke (back), taking a massive 25 seconds off her entry time. Nell Graham beat her entry times  in all of her 3 events; 50m breaststroke, 50m butterfly (fly) and 100m Individual Medley (IM). She took 11 seconds off her entry time for the 50m fly, with a new time of 40.43 seconds. Lauren Flint also swam pbs in each of her events and also took 7  seconds off her 100m breaststroke. Beatrice Forsyth gained 2 pbs in her 100m breaststroke and 200m Individual Medley taking 8 seconds off for this latter event.

Josh Whitton won a gold medal in the 50m free and  bronze in the 50m back, together with 6 pbs. James Kelley improved on 3 of his entry times and for one of these, he took 16 seconds off his 100m entry time in his very first inter-club gala! Thomas Power swam his first 1500m free and won a bronze medal, together with a gold in the 50m breaststroke. Emily Whitton won a medal in each of her 8 events with a gold in the 50m back. Romilly Staines gained 4 bronze medals, a 3 second pb in the 100m fly, together with 3 other pbs.

Kitty Graham went faster than her entry times in the 50m breaststroke and 50m fly. Ava Race won a gold medal in the 200m breaststroke together with a 3 second pb in this event. Ava also won 2 silver, and 3 bronze medals plus 3 other pbs. Jessica Maughan won a medal in each of her 4 events with a gold in the 200m breaststroke. Anne-Marie Kelley swam 3 pbs with a 15 second pb in the 100m IM. Ryan Baker swam pbs in the 100m and 200m free, taking 14 seconds off this latter event. Roberta Antonescu gained 4 pbs in the 50m back, 100m free, 100m fly and 200m IM. Annabel Cooper won 4 medals including 3 gold for the 50m free, 200m and 400m IM.
